What are the 12 continuity checks?
Run these 12 checks on every chapter before you publish. 1) Relationships unchanged unless plotted. 2) Character ranks/titles current. 3) Stats match last chapter (no regression without event). 4) Skills unlocked = skills used. 5) Location matches last scene's exit. 6) Timeline anchor consistent (no Tuesday→Saturday jumps). 7) Known-to-MC facts respected (don't reveal twice). 8) Faction allegiances tracked. 9) Dead characters stay dead (or are explicitly resurrected). 10) Weapon/gear inventory consistent. 11) Currency totals match (LitRPG only). 12) System rules unchanged unless 'patch note' scene exists.
Why does a checklist beat a beta reader?
Beta readers catch tone. They miss numbers. This list catches the numbers.
For the stat side in depth, see how to track LitRPG stats.

How do you automate continuity checks?
A manual checklist works for chapters 1-30. After that you need something that remembers for you. PlotWrite's Story brain keeps every stat, rank and promise timed by chapter, and its Canon check reads your chapter, finds contradictions, shows both quotes side by side and offers a one-click fix. It reads your story; you still write every word, and no AI tag is needed for that kind of help (see Royal Road's AI tag rules).
